Laura Romero Arias is a Colombian lyric coloratura soprano lauded for her “pure and sweet tone” (The Oklahoman). Following in the illustrious footsteps of her grandfather, the renowned Colombian bass-baritone, Alberto Arias, Laura's passion for opera ignited at a young age.

Recently, in 2024, Laura performed in three recitals, including Love at First Sight: Duets from Famous Operas and From Opera to the Golden Age. These programs showcased her range and versatility, blending musical theater favorites with iconic opera arias and duets.

In the 2023 season, she joined Opera in the Ozarks as an Emerging Artist, performing the roles of Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and Venus in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers. Laura appeared as Giulia in Rossini’s La scala di seta with the Reynolds Performing Arts Center.

In the 2022-23 season, Laura was awarded the Grady Harlan Award for Most Professional Voice by the Texoma chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and was awarded first place in the Advanced Treble Division. She was also featured as Hester Prynne in Lori Laitman’s The Scarlet Letter, staged at Reynolds Performing Arts Center in Norman, Oklahoma. She was named winner of Florida Atlantic University's 13th Concerto and Aria Competition and had also the privilege of participating in a masterclass led by the world-renowned mezzo-soprano, Grace Bumbry.

Laura’s recent seasons have included engagements across the U.S. and Europe. She made her European debut at the Vienna Summer Music Festival, premiering as Rebecca in Scott Joiner's The Shower and as Elizabeth in Alexander Timofeev's “School of Marital Happiness”. She has appeared as Madame Herz in Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor and as a soloist in the Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds Concert with the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami, Florida.

A versatile performer, Laura’s past roles include performances with the Fundación de Jaime Manzur in Bogotá, Colombia, where she performed iconic works of the Zarzuela repertoire such as “La Leyenda del Beso”, “Las Leandras”, “Los Gavilanes”, and “La del Soto del Parral”. Additionally, she has sung as a soloist with Schola Cantorum of Florida.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University and Masters in Opera Performance from the University of Oklahoma, where she received 2nd place in University of Oklahoma's Benton-Schmidt Voice Competition.
